Audi’s American Dream

In an attempt to boost sales and growth in America, Audi may venture to open an assembly plant in North America. This will help Audi realize their goal of nearly doubling their US sales to 180,000 by 2015. Their target for the present year stands at 100,000.

They plan to achieve this either by setting up their own place or by collaborating and sharing one with Volkswagen as both car brands are owned by Volkswagen AG. Volkswagen is already on its way to announcing a US assembly plant to be located in the South Eastern part of the country. A US based plant would help Audi to keep a check on car prices in America and increase car sales that are struggling against a weak dollar and a resulting general apathy towards the luxury car niche.

Audi’s worldwide sales stand at just under 1 million as of now and they plan to advance them to 1.5 million by 2015. As part of this global ambition, you can expect a lot of new models from Audi. Big on that list is the introduction of diesel run engines in the US, with the first of them likely to be seen in the Q7 SUV next year. Nearly 60% of Audi’s global sales are diesel cars. Besides this there a re plans afoot for 40 upcoming vehicles world wide.

In keeping with this strategy, the cars to be launched this year include the Q5, an SUV which will be a tad smaller than the Q7, a convertible version of the A3 compact, the A4 sedan and a station wagon. American can expect the A4 sedan only in September 2009.
