Audi designs a clever system that improves traffic flow

Audi, known for its innovative designs, has now come out with a clever system which will enable drivers to adjust speed by telling them when the signals will change.
The system will help in improving the flow of traffic by anticipating signals and will suggest the speed at which a driver can approach the signals.

According to Audi’s engineers, the Travolution system will cut idling time at signals thereby reducing CO2 emissions.

The software is being tested on A5 coupe and A6 Avant, which can communicate with special type of traffic lights. Audi’s Multi Media Interface (MMI) system relays perfect speed to the driver for travelling between junctions, thereby eliminating frequent acceleration or deceleration which causes undesired burning of fuel.

The second part of Audi team’s project involves use of advanced software for computation of traffic flow data and light cycles in a city. The software then produces suggestions on phasing of traffic light network timing. The team will conduct tests with 20 cars at 50 junctions.

Audio is reviewing traffic lights in London with the aim to minimise emissions. It is working on designing of intelligent signals which will stay green according to the speed of approaching vehicles.
