Audi & FAW celebrate 20 years of joint venture in China

Audi & First Automobile Works (FAW) celebrated 20th anniversary of their joint venture in Changuchun on June 7. The two also laid the foundation for a new assembly hall and announced commencement of local production of Audi Q5.

Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi AG, declared the building of a new assembly hall as an important milestone and expressed group’s resolve to deliver 200,000 vehicles to the Chinese customers per year by 2015. Xu Jianyi, President of FAW, revealed the group needed additional capacity to fulfil market’s rising demand for Audi A6L and A4 models.

Audi brand with 4 rings is the leader in local premium segment recorded sale of over 100,000 vehicles in People’s Republic of China in 2007. It has sold more than 570,000 automobiles in China since 1988. Audi will open its exclusive dealership and service centre network at 200 locations there by 2015.

The Audi and FAW venture began in China with a license agreement between the two for assembling Audi 100 from SKD/CKD kits at FAW plant in Changuchun. Established in 1953, FAW is the oldest automobile group of 100 companies in China, with the workforce of 100,000.
