BMW 760Li with New V12 Engine to be launched in September
BMW will be launching its flagship model BMW 760Li, powered by all new 5,972cc V12 twin-turbocharged engine, in September 2009. It will be BMW’s first production car featuring new 8-speed automatic transmission, giving high performance in premium segment.
The V12, all-aluminium engine produces 544hp at 5,250 rpm and delivers 750Nm of torque from 1,500 rpm to 5,000 rpm, which is nearly 150Nm and 100hp more than previous model. It accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 4.6 seconds and gives top speed of 155mph – a performance not matched by many sports cars.
This prodigious performance is transferred to road by an eight-speed automatic transmission which offers effortless in-gear performance. There is no gain in weight or size over earlier 6-speed transmission. This innovative design incorporates 4 simple gear sets and 5 gear change elements. This ensures that only 2 clutches remain open at any one time in each gear, thereby substantially reducing frictional losses.
BMW 760Li is equipped with Drive Dynamic Control that features Variable Damping Control, as standard and enables customisation of driving characteristics of car by the driver. The driver can alter gear change, damper settings, throttle response and degree of steering assistance with pressing of a button.
Innovative optional features like Integral Active Steering, allows steering of all 4 wheels of the car which improves turning circle at low speed and enables composed ride at higher speed. Lane Change Warning, Night Vision system, Head-up Display and Side View cameras are other optional features that will be available with BMW 760Li.
The new car will be on sale from September 2009.
