BMW releases details of 3-Series Saloon and Touring

The new BMW 3-Series with new iDrive system, all-aluminium engine and changed visuals will be out in September. Prior to this it had released details along with pictures.    The new BMW 3 Series saloon and Touring are designed with new looks of interiors and exteriors offering 5 different models in petrol and diesel.

The 3-Series has a more muscular look, with corona side lights and trademark kidney grill. Wing mirrors of larger size improve visibility and the 24mm increased track enhances driving dynamics. LED technology rear lights are provided as standard.

New design alloy wheels, including 17-inch V-spoke are provided on four-cylinder SE cars. The new bonnet and M Aerodynamic body set the MSport models apart. The new iDrive system which uses 8 GB hard drive adds convenience and improves functionality.  All 3-Series Saloons and Touring models are provided with six airbags, active head restraints and rear ISOFIX child seat mounts.

The BMW 330d 3-litre engine produces 245bhp at 4,000rpm and torque of 323lb-ft at 1,750rpm to 3,000rpm.  The 330d Saloon has acceleration of zero to 62mph in 6.1 seconds, and the Touring in 6.2 seconds, at electronic controlled top speed of 155mph. The fuel economy has improved to 49.6mpg and CO2 emission has come down to 152g/km.  BMW has been selling 28,000 units of 3 Series Saloons and 9,000 units of Touring models per annum since 2005. BMW 3 Series will be on sale in the UK from 20 September, 2008.
