Car designers alerted on consumer shift in choices for colour
The global team of DuPont have noted a significant shift in the consumer preference for colours. While black, white and silver are still the major choices, many car users are getting attracted towards various treatments of blue colour.
DuPont, the world’s largest global suppliers of paints to car manufacturers and the repair industry, has been publishing DuPont Global Automotive Colour Popularity Report since last 55 years. According to the report, dark blue metallic colour is the most popular in the Asia Pacific region. White has overtaken silver in Asia and North America. In India and China, the booming economies of the world today, young consumers are demanding wide range of colours for their cars.
Blue is the most chromatic colour for the European market with 12 per cent of car users opting for it, as reported by Elke Dirks, DuPont colour designer for Europe. According to Dirks, black has overtaken silver in popularity in Europe and its volumes are likely to double in near future. She predicts that European consumers will demand more colourful and individualistic palette from car manufacturers. The current demand though is for light and sophisticated looks.
