Car manufacturer Porsche celebrates 60th anniversary
On June 8, the world’s most important sports car manufacturer Porsche will celebrate the anniversary when exactly 60 years ago its first prototype vehicle, number 356-001 got the official approval for road service. It is a major milestone in the journey of the family-operated company.
Narrating the history with pride, Ferry Porsche explains that when he was looking for the dream car and did not find one, he decided to build one himself. This pioneering spirit shaped the philosophy of the company. The journey was not without its ups and downs. But the efficient manufacturing, innovative designs like 911 and 356, Cayenne and Boxter, transformed the small sports car specialist into the most successful auto manufacturer in the world.
Porsche faced the most serious threat of takeover in 1992 when Wiedeking presided over the management. The shareholder families Porsche and Piech decided to lend support to the board in tiding over the crisis. Wiedeking with the support of board colleagues, restructured company’s hierarchy and processes; introduced lean management and lean production systems and brought the company back on the track to progress. It went on to create new records in revenue, sales and profits and did not look back thereafter.
