Continental AG opens production plant in China
The international automotive supplier Continental AG has set up a new production plant in the Economic Development Zone Changshu Southeast, in China. The new plant, in the name of Continental Automotive Systems (Changshu) Co. Ltd. is fully owned by Continental AG. It produces drum brakes, brake actuation products and front and rear calipers for Continental AG’s Chasis and Safety Division in the same zone.
Continental has made an investment of RMB 600 million (EUR 55.5 million) and plans to produce 2.4 million actuation units and 5 million calipers by 2011 with workforce of 1,000 employees. The big investment reflects on Continental’s firm resolve to secure its future business interests in China and create strong footprint in Asia.
The new Changshu plant, the Continental Chassis & Safety Division will attain localized manufacturing capability and cater to all the requirements of Hydraulic Brake products of industry in China and Asia.
According to Member of the Chassis & Safety Management Board of Continental AG Heinz Zingel who is also the Executive Vice President of Hydraulic Brake Systems Business Unit, Changshu which is Continental’s first worldwide plant will support new products like drum brakes and calipers and technologies for local manufacturing in China. It will also supply to markets in Korea, Japan and other countries.
Managing Director of Continental Automotive Systems Changshu, Mr. Lutz Marczinski, claimed that Changshu will soon become the world class manufacturing location for Continental AG.
