Europe’s largest automaker sets yet another record of 2.14 million vehicles

Volkswagen, Europe’s largest automakers achieved another landmark of delivering 2.14 million vehicles in 8 different models all over the world. Not withstanding adverse market conditions the auto giants registered an increase of 7.9% compared to January to April period of last year. In April alone it delivered 568,000 vehicles, up by 10.5% compared to April, 2007.

Volkswagen’s performance is much more impressive than the world market which registered increase of just 3%. The success is attributes to Volkswagen’s multi-brand strategy and model diversity. In Europe, the rise in group deliveries from January to April was 3% (1.22 million vehicles) of which Western Europe accounted for 0.7%. In Germany alone, deliveries were up by 5.9% (339,000 vehicles). Central and eastern Europe recorded highest rise of 18.7% (178,000 vehicles).

Volkswagen set impressive record in South America as well. Deliveries were up by 19.5% (260,000 vehicles), of which Brazil alone accounted for 203,000 deliveries (24.3% up). However North America deliveries were down by 4.9% (159,000 vehicles). In Asia-Pacific, the Group registered rise of 26.5% (420,000vehicles) over last year. China recorded increase of 28.9% over previous year.

Groups highest volume brand Volkswagen delivered 1.25 million vehicles (8.% rise), Skoda 17.7% rise (237,000 vehicles), Seat minus 5.9% (135,000 vehicles), Volkswagen commercial 14.7% rise (171,000 units) and Bentley minus 15.4% (3,200 vehicles).
