Fiat Going Green

Environmentally friendly seems to be the new buzz word of the times and the one place it is the most applicable is the motor industry. Fiat shows the way with its variations on the Fiat 500 minicar. It will exhibit one aggressive model of the same called the 500 Abarth and one green model called the 500 Aria which will be its concept at the Geneva Motor Show.

Drawing along the lines of the Fiat Panda Aria which was shown at the Frankfurt Motor show, the Fiat Aria is a demonstration of Fiat’s agenda to seriously reduce the footprints its cars leave behind ecologically. The 500 Aria will have Fiat’s 1.3 liter 16 V multijet diesel engine, with a particulate filter and robotic Dualogic gearbox. These cars will feature a new start-stop technology that turns the car engine off when the car is stationary. This they say will improve fuel economy by nearly 10% in urban set ups and reduce the carbon emissions to 98g/km.

Fiat has gone a step further and employed recycled materials for the interior, and long power auxiliary systems, reduced weight components and low-drag Pirelli tires. The floor of the car will be made from old tires and the seats will be upholstered using woven recycled leather and many radical materials.

This along with the Panda Climbing which is among the Nature Power range of vehicles with dual petrol/methanol hydrogen fuel management, will make a serious place for Fiat in automotive makers with a serious desire to work continually towards the betterment of this beautiful planet.
