Ford HR Head To Leave
The Head of Human Resources for Ford Group, Joe Laymon, has decided to up and leave in favour of the post of vice president of human relations and medical services for California-based Chevron Corp. Joe Laymon has been a fixture at Ford for the last eight years and was also regarded as a close advisor to Ford’s Executive Chairman Bill Ford Jr. He will be replaced by Felicia Fields, who had been the vice president of the company’s human resources.
Joe Laymon has held a very prominent position in Ford and is accredited with some very important breakthroughs in the deciding contract that was negotiated between Ford and the United Auto Workers last fall and was a pioneer in maintaining strong relations with the union in the rough economic weather that the automobile industry is reeling under presently.
Joe Laymon has stated that only an offer that was as prestigious as that of working under Chevron could tempt him to give up what he had at Ford. His term however ends at a somewhat bitter note. Just 24 hours before Laymon announced his resignation, he gave out the names of the six candidates that were in the running for the position of CEO of Ford Motors after current CEO Alan Mulally’s term ends in 2011. This will probably lead to a premature race for the coveted post and a hostile working environment among the top brass at Ford.
This is also not the first such incident where Joe Laymon has jumped the gun. For an interview with Fortune 2004, he had let out that all the top executives at Ford had worked with executive coaches and that he infact was the coach for CEO Bill Ford.
Joe Laymon successor to the Detroit based Ford Motors, Felicia Fields has been with Ford since 1986. She has held eminent human resources positions in the fields of manufacturing, research, information technology, finance, product development and corporate development.
