Ford To Recall 180,000 SUVs and Vans.
Ford has announced two recalls which will affect nearly 180,000 light trucks, SUVs and vans. The recall is meant to fix faulty door handles and fuel lines. The larger of the two recalls will affect nearly 124,000 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs from the 2007-2008 model years. The spring located in the inside door handle may break and have been called in to be replaced by a newly designed door spring. While the faulty latches may continue to function correctly, problems may arise due to an inability of the door handles to return to the closed position. This could create risks if the car is involved in an accident, as the door latch may inadvertently open. The springs on all doors will be replaced on all Expedition and Navigator vehicles built between March 2003, 2006 and August 9, 2007. Ford claims that no untoward incidents or mishaps have as yet been reported as a result of this flaw.
The second recall involves approximately 57,000 2006-2007 E-150, E-250 and E-350 vans along with 2007 Expedition and Navigator SUVs with 5.4 liter engines. The problem involves the engine’s fuel rail cross over hose which connect to the fuel rails, which may crack open and leak fuel thereby increasing the chances of a fire. The fuel rail assembly will be replaced as part of this recall.
The recalls are expected to commence at the end of this month for the door spring handles and in March for the fuel assembly.
