Forester wins prestigious award just before its UK release

Recently Subaru’s new Forester won the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s ‘Top Safety Pick 2008’ award in United States. The Forester would go through a crash protection test and receive high marks in front, rear and side tests along with electronic stability control.

Test conducted by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety are respected world over and both UK and US Foresters are Japanese built which means they share the same potential life saving features. The ‘top safety pick’ is intended to help people find the safest choices because one never knows what kind of crash one is going to be in.

This is excellent news for the company since it is perfectly timed just as Forester’s UK version is about to go on sale. The Forester features more passenger and luggage space and a smoother ride and handling credited to a new multi-link double wishbone suspension.

Crashworthiness evaluations are based on the results of 40 miles per hour offset accident. While side impact is measured by moving a barrier colliding at 31 miles per hour, rear crash tests a stationery vehicle’s head restraint and seat effectiveness at an impact of 20 miles per hour.

Launched in UK this month, the Forester underscores Subaru’s assurance to deliver state-of-the-art safety. The UK version will be available as a 2.0 litre petrol car with option of both automatic and manual transmission.
