Honda suspends production in the UK plants for 2 months

Woes of the car industry in the UK and elsewhere in the world do not seem to end, as Honda decides to suspend production at its plant in Swindon, Wiltshire for 2 months.

The company declared that it has no plans to cutting jobs of 4,200 workforce and will open the factory after two months.

In the past few months car industry has been struggling hard for survival and has resorted to harsh measures of job cuts, suspension of manufacture and closure of units. Honda was the latest to announce cutbacks as demand for cars plummeted beyond expectations.

The slump swept all sections of automobile market fro Bentley to Rolls Royce to mass manufacturers like Nissan who decided to remove one fourth of their workforce in Sunderland.

The worst situation in which car industry is finding itself has brought tremendous pressure on the Government to act swiftly to rescue manufacturers. Industry experts are predicting that this year would be still worst for the market and will put more jobs at risk.

Honda’s staff will get its full wages until end of current financial year and thereafter hold negotiations with workers over future course of actions. Swindon factory has been producing Civic for entire European market.

According to Honda’s director, David Hodgetts, company had to reduce output since European market did not show signs of recovery and it became necessary to match output with existing demand.
