LED Headlights on Audi R8 V10 herald revolution in car design

Order booking for Audi R8 V10, another demonstration of pioneering Vorsprung Durch Technik technology by the German car manufacturer, has commenced in the UK.

Audi R8 V10 is the first car in the world with all-LED (light emitting diode) headlamps. The use of high intensity diodes, for low and high beam settings and running of lights and indicators during daytime, is being introduced for the first time in the history of car manufacture.

The LED headlamp is the representative of a new generation of headlamps that make use of only light emitting diodes which reduce CO2 emissions. The 196 mph super-car comes with interior light package as standard, comprising of light and rain sensors, LED foot-well and engine compartment lighting.

According to Audi’s Head of Light and Visibility Department, Dr. Wolfgang, the first all-LED headlights, is the triumph of an idea. He informed that lot of people dismissed this development as marketing gimmick but those who saw these lights in action were thrilled with their output and uniform distribution of daylight like colour of light.

Audi is the first manufacturer to recognise and incorporate revolutionary Lighting Technology in design and development of its cars and got the technological edge over competitors in its vehicle segment.

LEDs reduce the consumption of fuel. Audi R8 owners will benefit a lot when running of lights during daytime becomes mandatory in European Union beginning May 2011.
