Mercedes Design Chief To Retire
After an illustrious 40 year career at Mercedes, 30 of which were as Mercedes’ official Design Chief, 65 year old Peter Pfeiffer will retire sometime this year.
Pfieffer started his career in1963 with Ford-Werke AG as a designer after graduating from the Sel Porcelain and Industrial Design State Technical College. He moved to Merced five years later and in just 10 years was elevated to Design Chief.
Pfieffer has played a very influential role on practically every car out of the Mercedes Garage in the last 30 years. Some models worth a mention include the magnificent SLR Supercar, the CLS four-door coupe and also the rather unwieldy R-Class for which he received the Red Dot Design Award.
Although no official successor has been nominated as yet, it is believed that he will be replaced by Gorden Wagener who is currently the President of Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design of North America. Wagener has had this post since 2006.
