New Subaru Forester - 3rd generation crossover SUV

The new Subaru Forester launched in April, is the third generation of Subaru’s crossover SUVs, on par with Nissan X-Trail, Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.

Subaru Forester offers more space, larger ground clearance and smoother ride. Its low centre-of-gravity boxer engine has horizontally-opposed cylinders instead of vertical lay-out. It has famous all-wheel drive system.

The new Forester features multi-link rear suspension, vehicle dynamic control, electric power steering, automatic transmission with ‘sports’, ‘manual’ or ‘normal’ mode options and engine with highly improved efficiency.

It is 75mm longer and 45mm wider than the nearest size - but less agile - SUVs of the competitors. It also measures more in height by 110 mm. Driver’s eye-line is up by 30mm and the legroom is spacious by additional 95mm.

The new Forester’s improved 2.0 litre petrol ‘boxer’ engine provides fuel economy and driveability. The lower centre of gravity lends improved grip, precise steering action and minimum body roll. Lowering of engine and transmission in the platform by further 10mm adds extra comfort in driving.

The automatic versions of Forester 2.0X and 2.0XS petrol models would cost £1,000 more than the manual versions which were launched in April 2008 costing £18,495 and £22,495 respectively.

The Subaru Forester Boxer Diesel range, priced £20,295 onwards was launched in September 2008.
