No Trans Am for Pontiac

A Dealer Meeting held last week for the Buick Pontiac and GMC dealers has revealed plans to launch 12 special edition cars over the next 20 months. Pontiac is currently in the process of returning to General Motor’s performance division with the imminent launch of the G8, but its future is still under dispute due to the stricter CAFE regulations. New fuel regulations require vehicles to reach a fleet average of 35mpg by 2020. This has resulted in Pontiac being relegated as a car only brand and not a part of the performance division in the near future.
Another disappointment for Pontiac is that unlike Chevrolet which will get a sibling version of the Camaro, there are no such plans for the Trans Am.
General Motors have decided to remain focused on smaller, turbo charged engines. They have promised B-P-G dealers, twelve new special edition vehicles such as the GMC Sierra Pro Grade and a 41% boost to the Buick Enclave production from the original production plans to 55,000 units annually.
