Opel Astra’s landmark journey
The 10 millionth Opel Astra car is the landmark achievement for the world’s best selling car manufacturer Opel. It was rolled off on 20th May in Bochum, Germany with fanfare. It is an extra ordinary mile stone on the history of Opel. Opel is synonymous with quality compact cars. It sold record 500,000 units last year in Europe. Hans H. Demant, Opel Managing Director is highly appreciative of Astra. He claims that its bold designs, advanced technology and versatility satisfy all customer needs. He considers Astra symbolizes their brand. Its success is the recognition of Opel’s expertise in compact car segment.
A pioneer in carmaking since 1936, Opel’s success journey began in on 12th August, 1991 when magma-red station wagon, its first model rolled out of Bochum plant. In 1980, Vauxhall renamed Kadett to Astra at the launch of compact class car. Astra is a bestseller in 80 countries all over the world.
In 2008, the Astra GTC was christened “Most Fashionable Vehicle” car in China. It bagged “Red Spot for High Design Quality” and adjudged “Good Environmental Choice” by the Swedish Association. The British are the biggest customers for most Astras. Sale of 119,082 units in UK, was followed by sale of 74,226 units in Germany. Italy and Spain registered sales of 43,128 and 41,282 units respectively. 1.6 ECOTEC model Enjoy is most popular in Western Europe.
