Opel Insignia Unveiled

Vauxhall Motors has released its new range of automobiles called Opel Insignia. This line is to replace Opel’s Vectra line and has been greeted with much excitement. The car is bigger, better and a lot more beautiful than the Vectra. The Insignia is designed for European markets and will now take on competitors such as the Fiat Mondeo, Honda Accord, Mazda6 and the Citroen C5.

Opel’s new mid-sizer is an absolute stunner with sleek curves taking the place of the dull flat surfaces of the old Vectra. It is also 50 mm wider and 210 mm longer than the Vectra. Its wheelbase has been elongated by 35 mm to give an overall roomy and comfortable car.

So while the car looks the part, special mention has to be made about a few, key technologies that have been thrown in to make this car even better than expected. One of the main ones is the advanced Forward Lighting system, which gives the user nine different light beam presets to suit different driving settings. In addition to this is the IDSPlus Active lighting system that helps the car adjust to its driving condition.

The Insignia will be a front wheel drive and will possess what is called the “Adaptive 4×4” system.  The car will be launched with three engine versions, which can be fitted with manual or automatic transmission, although both will have six-speed gear boxes. Three of these will be petrol engines, ranging from a baseline four-cylinder 140 hp unit to a 260 hp V-6. The other two engine types will be direct-injection diesel options with specifications of either 130 hp or 160 hp. All these versions are Euro5 compliant. There are plans afoot to expand this line, in the future, by including an EcoFLEX version for a greener and more fuel efficient option.

The car will be displayed at the London Motor Show in July, and will be on sale in the UK by October 2008.
