Porsche Set To Get New Small SUV

Porsche has been keen to create a new SUV that will be modeled along the lines of Audi’s Q5 SUV, which is set to premiere at the Beijing Motor Show next month.

Porsche had been looking forward to this new vehicle for a long time and this new SUV would be in the same league as the now existing BMW X3, and the upcoming Audi Q5, the Infiniti EX35 and the Volkswagen Tiguan. It will be expected to have the Porsche Cayenne’s V6 and V8 engine. Porsche’s CEO Wendelin Wiedeking has also expressed a desire to fully utilize the new production facilities that are being installed to fit the Panamera, so it is likely that the new SUV could be built in the near future.

Although, this has been on Porsche’s wish list for a while, Audi isn’t exactly too pleased with the plans as they believe the new Porsche would provide competition for the Q5 and eat into its sales. However, now that Porsche has upped their stake in Audi-owners Volkswagen from 31% to 50%, they may get a chance to wrestle in an approval, due to the appointment of three Porsche-centric executives on the Volkswagen supervisory board.
