Porsche to offer Cayenne with diesel engine

Effective February 2009, Porsche once again will be extending its range for the all-wheel dive, four door car with launch of Cayenne with diesel engine. The decision was prompted by amendment to legal regulations offering tax incentives for diesel engine vehicles in European markets. Porsche’s stake in Volkswagen, the largest manufacturer of diesel engines for modern passenger cars, has paved the way for utilising compression ignition technology.

Cayenne will be equipped with 3.0-litre 240 bhp V6 turbo diesel engine, supplied by Volkswagen group’s subsidiary, Audi AG. Its average fuel consumption and CO2 emission are 30.4mpg combined and 244g/km respectively.

The high torque characteristics and spontaneous throttle response of Cayenne’s diesel engine, delivers high performance of an all-terrain vehicle. The maximum torque of 550Nm provides high degree of control and provides driving joy typical of Porsche vehicles.

The Porsche Cayenne model will be first offered to European market, while preparations for introduction in other markets are underway.

The Porsche Executive Board is confident of long term success of Cayenne series equipped with V6 turbo diesel. Porsche sold record 45,478 units of Cayenne series in last financial year

Cayenne Diesel’s introduction reflects on Porsche’s commitment to reduction of fuel consumption. Way back in 2007, Porsche had introduced direct injection petrol engine Cayenne which consumed 15% less fuel in normal driving conditions. Porsche has started offering 911 series vehicles with these engines. The sports car manufacturer would also be launching Cayenne with hybrid drive exceeding 31 mpg, at the end of 2010.
