Powerful and CO2 efficient Renault-Nissan Alliance engine unveiled
The V6 dCi diesel engine displayed at the Paris Motor Show in Laguna Coupe, is the first engine developed and manufactured by the Renault-Nissan Alliance. It is meant to fulfil worldwide demand of powerful yet emission and fuel efficient engines to equip top of the range vehicles.
The cooperation between Renault and Nissan made it possible for both to offer state-of-the-art powertrains to customers all over the world.
The new V6 dCi (V9X) engine was developed jointly by the two companies and assembled at Renault plant. It will be equipped in Nissan, Renault and Infiniti vehicles. This arrangement will facilitate sharing of costs, deriving advantage from production volumes and offering more variants to customers.
The new engine’s specifications are meant to meet requirements of customers of all three alliance partners. It will be possible to equip various types of vehicles viz. saloons, coupes, SUVs with this new engine, and commercialise its sales in Europe, US and other parts of the world. For this reason the engine has been designed in ‘V’ architecture, so that it can be fitted transversally, or longitudinally.
The V6 dCi engine derived its concept from well established 2.0 dCi engine. Their upper parts are almost similar. Engineers of Nissan were also fully involved in the development to ensure that engine could be fully adapted to Nissan vehicles.
