Rear View Camera in Ford Kuga enhances safety while reversing

A Ford first high-tech rear-view miniature camera system on new compact crossovers will help drivers in car parking and safe manoeuvring by reducing behind the car blind spots.

The camera, mounted on the tailgate, would show objects, which are normally difficult to see, on a large 7-inch display. The system gets activated as soon as reverse gear is engaged and the camera shows obstructions within limits of vision including children and low obstacles.

The camera system in the Ford Kuga is enhanced with special graphics superimposed on to images of camera. Two yellow lines indicate vehicle’s width along with mirrors while a third line indicates the centre line of the vehicle. Moving lines show path of vehicle on the basis of current steering angle.

Ford systems engineer Joerg Luemmen explained that many drivers found it difficult to hitch a caravan to their vehicle or manoeuvre in tight spots. The Ford Kuga rear-view camera will provide clear view of the backside and help in reversing safely and accurately.

The rear-view camera is fitted as standard to Ford Kuga if customers opt for the premium DVD navigation system.

When fitted, the Park Assist sensors along with rear camera help drivers in judging the distance between a car and the objects by displaying additional coloured bars indicating distances of 0.3mm to 2mm.
