Shut Down To Restructure

The plight of the US economy is beginning to take its toll on various industries and the automotive industry seems to be on of the worst affected. Reeling under a 14% drop in sales to a dismal 150,093 vehicles, Chrysler has told its 70,000 workers to take a two week break in July.

This industry is under huge stress right now because of the ever spiraling fuel prices and though Chrysler showed an increase in car sales, its vans and lorries segment showed a 22% drop in sales.

Chrysler’s management team believes, that through this company wide vacation shutdown will help them work at making the company’s operation more streamline and will boost production and organization. This holiday will be enforced in the weeks of July 7th and 14th.

Employees are being encouraged to use up their vacation allowance at this time unless they have a non-cancellable vacation plans at another time in the year.

Chrysler, owned by Cerberus Capital and most other car makers are feeling the heat of the US economy as revealed by the commerce department, which showed a 1.9% drop in car expenditure against a 0.6% drop in overall consumer expenditure.
