Smallest Land Rover car made public debut at Detroit Motor Show
The smallest ever Land Rover, with a built-in champagne cooler in the boot, made its debut at the Detroit Motor Show.
The company is targeting young, sporty car buyers who would like to drive for tailgate parties with friends and would prefer a vehicle suitable for urban driving without pollution guilt.
The three-door Land Rover LRX derives its power from diesel and electricity with carbon emissions of 120 grammes a kilometre, making it exempt from congestion charges in London.
The tailgate is provided with integrated glass holders. The concealed floor of the boot accommodates a wine cooler and food chiller inside. The designers have added these features for people who enjoy holding parties in sporting events and car parks.
Phil Pompham remarked that it was hugely exciting direction for the company and LRX technology had the capability to address needs of changing world.
LRX is an early-stage concept car created at Land Rover’s Gaydon engineering centre in Warwickshire. It is not likely to be manufactured in existing form; however its ideas will be displayed in design to gauge market response.
Land Rover’s owner, Ford, is intending to sell the firm alongside Jaguar. India’s Tata Group has been showing interest in buying two units.
Phil Popham claimed that the brand’s profits were quite strong at the moment.
