Soaring fuel prices force motorists to cut speed

The rocketing fuel prices have compelled motorists to cut their driving speeds. According to a report released by AA Motoring Trust, drop in average speed is largely owing to the rising fuel costs! Motorists who adopt less erratic and slower driving can save 6 pence per litre in the fuel costs.

AA Motoring Trust’s breakdown patrols mention that a large number of car users are observing self-enforced limit of 55 mph while passing through the inside lane of motorways. According the spokesman, the drop in speeds is not owing to the UK’s speed traps, since government reported only a marginal drop in the driving speeds in the last ten years or so.

The spokesman insists that significant drop in speeds in the recent months is mainly due to the record breaking fuel prices. He adds that budget conscious families are slowing speeds mainly on account of concern for expensive fuel. The AA Motoring Trust claimed thrifty motorists are adopting slow driving to ease off the gas.

The motorists are also beating up fuel prices by signing up to online car pool clubs. The number of drivers who joined the pool clubs in June almost doubled up in July.
