The New Renault Megane launched at the Paris Motor Show has conventional looks

Renault has launched a new Renault Megane, which is less radical in looks than the models styled in 2006 and for which its design team received flak from the management.

Though the company was applauded for its daringly different looks, the new Renault boss Patrick Pelata was dissatisfied with the sales outcome and informed reporters that Renault decided to stop designing cars for designers and is going to make cars which will be more appealing to customers.

The Chief Designer Brit Anthony Grade is pleased with new Megane’s more conventional looks though he is among the ones who had received criticism over the earlier design.

The C-segment in Europe is the biggest volume market for Volkswagen Golf, Vauxhall Astra and Ford Focus. Pelata wanted a Megane which was less prone to polarising opinion and looked more like a mainstream vehicle.

Grade is confident that the new Megane would impress people the most and claimed that RenaultSport versions were absolutely stunning. The range includes hatchback, estate plus Scenic MPV versions and saloon which though would not be available in the UK.

Grade explained that critical factor in designing an electric car was pedestrian safety. There are many rules regarding front-end design to comply with which restrict designers in their innovation.
