The New Volkswagen Golf GTD at Leipzig Motor Show

Volkswagen is presenting two cars to the enthusiasts, Volkswagen Golf GTI, which is now on the road and Volkswagen GTD, which is unveiled at the Leipzig Motor Show.

The diesel powered Golf GTD, having fuel consumption of 53.3 mpg and fuel tank capacity to run more than 650 miles per fill, accelerates to 62 mph in just 8.1 seconds, reaching top speed of 136 mph.

Volkswagen Golf GTD design is an improvement over sixth generation GTI. It has an agile chassis and substantial torque available from 1,750 rpm.

Golf GTD is powered by an improved 2.0-litre, 170 PS common rail TDI engine producing 258 lbs ft torque and CO2 emission of just 139 g/km. A six speed automatic or manual DSG gearbox enables effortless performance.

Suspension of the Golf GTD has been lowered by 15 mm compared to standard Volkswagen Golf to facilitate sharp responses. Golf GTD can also be specified with innovative ACC (Adaptive Chassis Control) system equipped with pneumatically controlled damper units. This enables driver to select comfort, sport or normal mode to define desired steering, suspension and accelerator response setting for a specific journey.

The new Volkswagen GTD will also feature high levels of safety with ESP, ABS, 7 air bags, including one for knee, all as standard.

The UK buyers can book order for Golf GTD from end April. The car will be out for sale on June 2009. Prices are yet to be announced.
