The Saab 9-X Air concept car for Paris Motorshow
Saab, which introduced first 4-seater convertible to the world 25 years ago, would be unveiling its classic design in the form of 9-X Air concept car at the Paris Motorshow on October 2, 2008.
The tantalising future convertible car, featuring unique canopy top, deviates from conventional convertibles in design. Its flat folding roof is mounted on prominent rear pillars curved upwards. 9-X Air would present look of a true coupe when the top would be up, while the motorists could enjoy open-top motoring by putting the top down.
Raked rear pillars of Saab 9-X Air which support Canopy Top, are developed on the basis of Tara roof principle. The Canopy top is electrically operated and folds in storage trunk. This unique design of convertible roof has been filed for patent by Saab.
The body contours of the 9-X Air are inspired by Scandnavian aircraft heritage and design ethos. ‘Ice block’ lighting themes and uncluttered body surfaces lend an eye catching look to the car. ‘Ice block’ lighting themes, smooth body surfaces and wraparound window graphics enhance its elegance.
According to Anthony Lo, General Motors Europe’s Director of Advanced Design, 9-X Air car matched with 9-X BioHybrid in design and performance efficiency. It offered savings in weight and packaging to the company and freedom in taking convertible design forward.
