The Volvo S60 Concept Car to be unveiled in January 2009

The Volvo S60 concept car is scheduled to be unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show to present glimpses of what it will look like when launched in 2010.

The President and CEO of the Volvo Cars, Stephen Odell, has expressed confidence in delivering more dynamic and exciting designs and maintaining its leadership in vehicle safety. He added that the all-new S60 concept car will be the strongest contender in CD segment.

The coupe-inspired silhouette has been further accentuated. The concept car’s design promises very exciting driving characteristics and the all-new S60’s sporty drive would be very much different from any Volvo before, claimed Stephen Odell.

The roof line which is sleek and coupe-like has eye catching shoulder contours, a double wave at the front of the car from headlamps to the tail lamps at the rear end. The design director, Steve Mattin, explained that this inspiration came from the cliffs and seas of the Swedish coastline. He added that concept car’s exterior provides indication of customers’ expectations of the all-new S60. On the interior, Mattin claimed to be more daring in creating vision of Volvo’s future.

Interior features include hand crafted floating centre stack made of Orrefors crystal, shaped in transparent wave starting from instrument panel going up to rear seat backrest. Use of pure crystal was a thrilling experiment, said Mattin.
