Touran and Sharan join Volkswagen’s BlueMotion range
Touran and Sharan joined the Blue Motion range of Volkswagen’s people carriers known as the most efficient among seven-seater category of vehicles in the market.
BlueMotion is the most efficient range of Volkswagen’s passenger cars which incorporates several small improvements in the drivetrain, engine, vehicle’s body and tyres to minimise engine strain and in turn improve economy and reduce emission.
Both Touran and Sharan feature redesigned subtle grille elements. Redirected air ducts allow smoother airflow over the vehicle’s front. Lowered ride height reduces drag. The cars also incorporate practical and visual changes like hard compound tyres to minimise rolling friction and BlueMotion badges on tailgate and grille.
A modified gearbox is coupled with 1.9-litre 4-cylinder 105 PS engine with variable turbocharger which enhances Touran’s efficiency and 2.0-litre 140 PS TDI engine of Sharan. The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and oxidation catalyst are added for reducing carbon and nitrogen oxide particles to the lowest minimum.
The Touran gives combined fuel economy of 52.3 mpg and CO2 emission of 144g/km while Sharan’s combined fuel economy and CO2 emission are 47.1 mpg and 159 g/km respectively.
Both the cars are provided with seven individual seats and large number of standard equipments such as ABS, six airbags, air conditioning and CD stereo.
Both the cars are on sale with price tags of £21,290 RRP on road for the Sharan and £16,725 for the Touran.
