Turbocharger R&D Centre in Czech Republic
Honeywell, the largest turbocharger manufacturer for commercial and passenger vehicle applications, has opened its fifth Turbo Technologies Engineering & Test Centre in Brno. The centre is equipped with state-of-the-art facility. It is housing engineering and research services. It will develop advanced turbochargers for passenger and commercial vehicles to boost their engines’ efficiency and make them more environment-friendly.
A turbocharger is a forced-induction compressor driven by a turbine. It improves the size-to-output efficiency of an engine. According to Adriane Brown, President and CEO, Honeywell Transportation Systems, application of energy-efficient turbocharged diesel and gasoline engines is on the rise all over the world, and Honeywell is gearing up to meet this demand. He is confident that new R & D Centre will strengthen their leadership in advanced turbocharger manufacturing.
Honeywell’s Turbo Technology produces over 9 million turbochargers per year. It has ten manufacturing plants and five engineering sites in Europe, America and Asia. Already a leader in turbochargers, it is expanding to meet the growing market demand for boosted vehicles. It expects sales to grow to more than 38% by 2012, from current level of 29%. The new R&D Centre at Brno will develop turbochargers which will boost engine’s fuel efficiency, and reduce harmful emissions.
