Vauxhall Ampera premiere at 79th Geneva Motor Show
The revolutionary Vauxhall Ampera would go into production in 2012, announced Carl-Peter Forster, President General Motors Europe, at the premiere of 79th Geneva Motor Show
Vauxhall Ampera will be Europe’s first electrically driven car with zero-emission capability, suitable for everyday use. The five-door Vauxhall Ampera derives its acceleration from Voltec Electric propulsion System, seats 4 passengers in comfort and offers spacious boot for luggage and features extended range of over 300 miles.
According to Carl-Peter, Ampera is demonstration of GM’s supremacy in automobile electrification. He claimed that its Voltec electric propulsion system was ground breaking technology that is needed by automotive industry to meet environmental and energy challenges.
Ampera’s wheels can be turned at all speeds and times electrically. Up to a journey of 40-miles, it runs on lithium-based battery that stores 16-kWh of electricity and emits no CO2. After depletion of battery’s energy, the on-board engine-generator enhances Ampera’s range to more than 300 miles.
Vauxhall Ampera can be plugged into any 240V outlet for charging. GM Europe is analysing plug-in electric cars’ recharging infrastructure requirements with energy companies, including parent company Scottish Power.
GM designers and engineers paid extra attention to Ampera’s aerodynamics, optimising air flow around front fascia and outside mirrors.
Its Pearl White Diamond colour, matching rear bumper and rocker panels lend a dynamic appeal to the car.
