Volkswagen’s Tiguan is now being produced in Russia
Volkswagen has decided to produce its Tiguan edition locally in Kaluga. According to Head of the Volkswagen brand in Russia, Frank Wittemann, reflects on Russian market’s strategic importance for the Volkswagen brand. Two versions of Tiguan, the Track and Field and the Sport and Style will be available for sale at market launch. These versions will be equipped with 1.4 TSI (150PS) entry-level engines and will cost 904,000 ruble. Model Tiguan 2.0 TSI (170PS) will be priced at 1,053,550 ruble.
Frank Wittemann claims that Russian customers will benefit most from local production of Tiguan. They will get same quality vehicles with shorter delivery time at most attractive prices. He informs that company is planning to expand retailer network from existing 63 to 120 in the long run in order to make its representation not only in Moscow and St. Petersburg but also in other parts of Russia. 17 retailers will be added to the network in the current year.
A total of 6,047 vehicles were sold in the first six months of 2008, amounting to increase of 37 per cent over last year in the corresponding period. Volkswagen’s retail training centre “The Group Academy” in Moscow, greatly contributes in various sales initiatives of the company. Employees from all brands of the Group are given extensive training on subjects like technology, vehicle repair, communication, customer service and many other aspects of work and company. Training is also imparted to sales managers and dealers.
