Volkswagen honours BASF with “Group Award 2008″
BASF became the honourable recipient of Vokskwagen’s prestigious “Group Award 2008”. Dr. Stefan Marcinowski, member of BASF’s Board of Executive Directors accepted the award from Prof. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman, Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft. The award is in the recognition of Hydraulan 404 fluid, developed by BASF. The fluid enhances braking performance of the vehicle, lasts longer hence does not require frequent changeovers. VW Group’s combined consumption of the fluid reduced by nearly 33%.
Marcinowski expressed great pleasure in receiving the prestigious award and described it as an incentive for BASF’s contribution in VW’s success in delivering innovative products. According to Rüdiger Mackenthun, head of BASF’s Automotive & Refinery Chemicals business unit, BASF and VW have jointly taken the ownership of developing environmental friendly products, like Hydraulan 404 fluid, and more advance safe products for automobiles.
VW’s selection criteria for the annual “Group Award” for environment are quite elaborate and stringent. The criteria look not only at the product quality but also give weightage to supplier’s own system of environment management. BASF fared exceptionally well in satisfying all the criteria of the award.
Hydraulan 404 needs replacement and disposal only once every three years instead of 2 years.
