Volkswagen registers phenomenal growth in sales in India
Europe’s giant automobile manufacturer, Volkswagen, registered a phenomenal growth of 69 per cent in its sales in India during January to June, 2008. The growth was beyond Volkswagen’s projected sales. Last six months witnessed delivery of 10,366 cars of Skoda, Audi and Volkswagen brands being delivered to customers in India. The last year sale for the corresponding period was 6,131 cars. High growth has boosted Volkswagen Group’s confidence and the group is now forecasting sale of 20,000 cars during January to December, 2008.
According to, President Volkswagen India, Mr Joerg Mueller who is also Representative of the Volkswagen Group, the phenomenal rise in sales in India highlights keen interest of the Indian customers in group’s brands and strengthens its presence in the Indian automobile market. It reflects on excellent alignment of 3 brands with demands of the market. He adds that sales of all brands of Volkswagen Group are exceeding expectations and boosting confidence in meeting year end targets. Mr. Joerg Mueller plans to expand model range with launch of Volkswagen Jetta and Audi A4 during the year.
470 cars were delivered by Audi to the customers in first six months of 2008, amounting to increase of 128 over the first six months of 2007. Skoda’s sale of 9,556 cars accounted for increase of 62 per cent for the corresponding period last year. Volkswagen delivered 340 cars in the last 6 months of 2008.
