Volvo continues its winning spree, bags Ward’s Interior Design Award
The Volvo C30 won Ward’s Interior Design Award for Best Brand Reflection and provided further momentum to Volvo’s award winning spree. Ward’s Autoworld magazine had also named Volvo S80 winner of the ‘Best Interior Design of the Year Award’ last year.
According to Eric Mayne, Ward’s Editor of News Operations, Volvo cars portray its heritage of simplicity, functionality and grace. They differ on industry concept that more mass provides more comfort. He acknowledges the concern shown by Volvo for ergonomic design where it combines form and function to provide pleasing aesthetical interior.
Steve Mattin, Senior Vice President Design, Volvo cars, explains that Volvo team wanted to provide more youthful spirit and Scandinavian flair to Volvo C30 interior. Their design vision was to create an interior unique only to Volvo brand. The team avoided using chrome and more switches to create harmony and softness in design. According to him Volvo’s centre stack control is a signature element for all its car models.
Inspired by sportswear and modern travel accessories, Volvo has used unique T-Tec fabric, specially designed for its legendary seats. The fabric enhances the dynamic appeal of the car. Steve Mattin proudly declares that Volvo is pushing the edge with all the unique features and materials in its designs.
