Volvo is extending green DRIVE range with Start-Stop systems
Volvo’s green DRIVE range is getting extended with addition of highly low CO2 emission and increased fuel efficiency models. Volvo will unveil its full DRIVE range at Geneva Motor Show on March 3. Models would include Volvo S80 Executive Saloon, Volvo V70 and XC70 Premium Estates and Volvo XC60 Crossover.
The existing DRIVE cars, S40 saloon, V50 Sportswagon and C30 SportsCoupe all offer lowest CO2 emissions through intelligent Start/Stop system.
The new DRIVE models will be on sale in the UK in summer 2009.
Volvo will offer best in class 104 g/kg CO2 emission in C30 model and 107 g/km in S40 and V50 models.
It is introducing 1.6D engine in S80 and V70 which will bring CO2 emission below 130 g/km.
Front-wheel drive versions XC70 and XC60 with 2.4D engine will reduce CO2 emission to 159 g/km, much below new Writing Down Allowance, being introduced for company cars from April 2009.
All DRIVE models are built with conventional diesel engine and manual gearbox which give extra-low fuel consumption. These cars are designed for reduced air drag and low rolling resistance.
Volvo spokesperson claimed that company’s aim is to build lowest CO2 emission cars in each size class. He added that fuel-efficiency focus also encompassed all Volvo vehicles and powertrains.
